Day 14 - 5/24/22 9:30pm

Day 14 - 5/24/22 9:30pm The final day of the senior project. Holy cow I can't believe it's gone by so quickly. Today was a big day with lots of things to do. We started the day with Sports Medicine, where the class presented their projects they had worked on. It was great to see all the work they had done come together in some fantastic presentations! After class, we went down to the training room for an advisory.  We need to start cleaning the training room, so I cleaned the hydroculators, cleaned out the last few water jugs, and cleaned the hose water wheel. We found a frog on it and I returned it to the wild. I also alphabetized forms that needed to be organized. We had the last sophomore seminar class of the term to wrap up our day.  Today 4.5 hrs Total 62 hrs

Day 13 - 5/23/22 8:30pm

Day 13 - 5/23/22 8:30pm Today was a great day. The morning started with our sophomore seminar class. We chatted as a class about the topics they had researched last class. It was a great discussion as a class. We also did inventory in the athletic trainers. This is not the easiest job but with a few people helping gets done in good time. We ended the day by covering another sophomore seminar class. The class was very different from our class but it was great to get to experience a different class. They presented presentations they had worked on. After class, we wrapped up for the day. Only one more day… Today 3.5 hrs Total 57.5

Weekly Reflection #2 5/22/22 9:00pm

Weekly Reflection #2 5/22/22 9:00pm Week two has come to an end. I can't believe how fast it's gone by. This week was a great week. We got alot done and I learned a lot. One thing that has been surprising to me is how much I've enjoyed the Sophomore Seminar. The class is a really fun group, and they are really good about interacting with each other as a class. When I originally thought about my project I wasn't even thinking about sophomore seminar, but to get it as part of my senior project has been great for me. I think another great part about Sophomore seminars is the age they are. It's a great way to see what teaching a high school age student is like. Other than the Sophomore seminar, I have really enjoyed my time in Sports Medicine. It's been a very different feel than Sophomore seminar, because the class has been doing their presentations so it's been less interactive as a class.I have really seen another aspect of teaching with this class. Tha...

Day 12 - 5/21/22 10:30pm

Day 12 - 5/21/22 10:30pm Today I only had sports medicine so it was a short day. I showed up to class today and we had a special presentation. Cam was giving her concentration presentation to our class. It was super interesting information and I really enjoyed it. After her presentation, we talked as a class a bit before they continued working on their own presentations for innovation night. After class ended, Kelly and I did the waters for sports and that was my day. It was short and sweet. I can't believe I only have a couple of days left of the senior project.  Today 1.35 hrs Total 54

Day 11 - 5/20/22 10:00pm

Day 11 - 5/20/22 10:00pm Today was fairly busy. We started the day with a jam-packed assembly. It involved me volunteering for an activity on stage. It was fun to go up even if I didn't really do anything. After assembly, Kelly and I went over to the Development office to pick up the posters for express fest which is just around the corner. We saw one of the other senior project groups who are working with alumni and development while we were up there. After that we went on with our day like normal, going threw the blogs, running a few errands around campus, and getting ready for sports by making the water jugs and then teaching a class. We had sophomore seminar today, and the class created presentations about drugs and addiction. Class wrapped up the day for us!  Today 4.5 hrs Total 52.65 hrs

Day 10 - 5/19/22 9:35pm

Day 10 - 5/19/22 9:35pm What a chill day. The weather today was everything I needed. It was a cool day, and after the warm spree, we had it well needed. I started the morning at assembly with Kelly. I always love assembly but something about a cool day and meeting for assembly makes it that much better. Sitting with Kelly's advisory I get a different perspective than when I'm with my advisory. The rest of the day matched the mood, we ran some errands and then went through the blogs. We had Sports Medicine to end the day. A great class.  Today 4 hrs Total 48.15 hrs

Day 9 - 5/18/22 9:15pm

Day 9 - 5/18/22 9:15pm Today during my senior project I got to lead Sports Medicine alone! The class was the first block and they were working on their projects so it wasn’t anything too daunting. I helped them look over their presentations and add more information. After class Kelly met me and we ran some errands around campus. It’s always fun to ride around on the golf cart and get stuff done. We then prepared for sports by making the water jugs and ice chests. Then we wrapped up the day with Sophomore Seminar, where we are starting our unit on Drugs, by watching a film that went through the effects of drugs on everyday life. I had to fix the projector because it was sideways. I then left for my softball game!  Today 3.15 hrs Total 44.15 hrs

Day 8 - 5/17/22 8:44pm

Day 8 - 5/17/22 8:44pm Another super great day with Kelly! Today's highlight was once again in Sophomore Seminar. Today the class played Jeopardy with the topics we've been talking about in the last few classes. It was super fun to see them using what they could remember, and a little competition is always fun. One group pulled ahead and ended up taking home the victory, but it was so fun to see them having a good time. When final jeopardy came around the groups were so funny, betting absolutely everything with the hopes of a score change. I had fun helping out and watching them have a good time.  Today 4.5 Total 41

Day 7 - 5/16/22 8:30pm

Day 7 - 5/16/22 8:30pm Another great day of senior project! Today was a pretty chill day with less intense work. We went through the blogs again which is always fun! After that, we had sports medicine. We talked through projects and made sure everyone was on a solid track. It’s super cool to see all the different ideas the students are coming up with. The final results should be great! They will be presenting at innovation night next week so they have to have some sort of a model for that! It will be super cool to see! We finished the day before sports discussing the upcoming game schedule for this week. I then went off to sports!  Today 4.75 hrs Total 36.5

Weekly Reflection 5/15/22 8:30pm

Weekly Reflection 5/15/22 8:30pm Week one! It's hard to believe it's already been a full week of senior project, it's flown by. This week was a really great week. I am LOVING my senior project, and more importantly, I'm learning a ton. This week was super busy but I'm glad it's packed with things to do throughout the day. This week checked the boxes in terms of what I had expected. It's super interesting to really see what goes into all the different parts of Kelly's job. Being able to help and learn about all the different “hats” Kelly wears adds a lot of layers to our days. For example one minute we are going through the senior project blogs or talking about safe sex with the sophomore seminar class, and the next we are on our way back to the training room to help fill the water jugs and ice chests for games or practices.  Having worked with the athletic trainers before in the training room, I know alot about how the facility works, and what goes o...

Day 6 - 5/14/22 10:45pm

Day 6 - 5/14/22 10:45pm Another short day due to afternoon games. This morning we started our day with Sophomore seminar. We went to the Athletic training room to dodge the heat and spend some time in AC. We talked about the five components of fitness to have a healthy lifestyle and taught some easy stretches to help stay flexible. After class, we got ready for all the afternoon activities. This meant making the water jugs, ice chests, and today, because of the heat coolers of cold towels. I also filled the ice baths in case of heat illness. After my very fun Saturday practice, I retired to the ATs just in time to help with the Boy's JV lacrosse game and helped clean up after. Tomorrow is a day off and then we will resume on Monday!  Today 4.5 hrs Total 31.75

Day 5 - 5/13/22 8:00pm

Day 5 - 5/13/22 8:00pm Day five was a blast! The highlight of today was Sophomore Seminar. In the class, we are going over safe sex and different types of contraceptives. The sophomores got to see all the different types, some they had never heard of. One of the sophomores in particular was super enthusiastic about it. She tried to see how big she could stretch a condom. I think everyone in the class learned something which is the most important part!  Today 5 hrs Total 27.25 hrs

Day 4 5/12/22 8:40pm

Day 4 5/12/22 8:40pm Today was a fairly chill day. Kelly had a meeting, so during that, I went through the senior project blogs again. It's really cool to see what so many different people are doing right now! We had sports medicine again. Today I presented to the class my project from the class last year to give some guidance on how it should look. Getting the chance to show my work from last year helped them gain a greater understanding of the project. After my presentation, we talked a bit more about it before the class and then continued working on their projects. We wrapped the day after class!  Today 5.75 hrs Total 22.25 hrs

Day 3 - 5/11/22 8:20pm

Day 3 - 5/11/22 8:20pm Day three!  Due to sports, it was a shorter day than normal. We started the day going through the senior's project blogs, making sure everyone has done theirs, and helping people who had technical difficulties while uploading. Once we had finished going through the blogs, we started to do inventory and charge sheets for the training room. Our very efficient method of doing this made it super quick and easy. Today we also had sports medicine class. They were working on their end-of-term project, getting inspiration from the modalities in the training room. We wrapped up the day after lunch. I spent some time in the training room before sports. Another super fun day!  Today 4.75 hrs Total 16.5

Day 2 - 5/10/22 8:30pm

Day 2 - 5/10/22 8:30pm For day two of the senior project, Kelly and I got a ton of different things done. We started the morning grading work from the sports medicine class. Allowing me to help with this, I got to learn in more depth her grading process. I then got to experience a meeting Kelly had. Although for most of it I just sat back and listened, learning a lot of important information, they also asked my opinion on a couple topics which was a great way for me to feel more involved with a very beneficial conversation. I then got introduced to Kelly's sophomore seminar class, in which the students presented on different topics before we did a worksheet. I helped them with the worksheets and then went over the answers with them. After class, we returned back to the training room where we finished some grading before sports. Because of the game schedules, I also got to shadow Austin and Kelly at the Varsity girl's Lacrosse game. The sidelines were a bit buggy, but I real...

Day 1 - 5/9/22 8:45pm

Day 1 - 5/9/22 8:45pm Day one of Senior Project! For my project, I am shadowing Kelly one of our athletic trainers, and teacher of sports medicine and sophomore seminar. Our first day was busy! We spent most of the day absolutely crushing paperwork. We scanned, filled out, and updated CPR files. It was alot of writing but in the end, it was really rewarding to see the stack of papers all filled out. We had sports medicine class as well today. We introduced their end-of-term project to invent a modality for the training room. It was a great first day, and I'm excited to learn so much more.  Today 5.5 hrs Total 5.5 hrs
